Appeal

It may happen that, for whatever reasons, you lose the case and the judge will not help. It could happen because you responded too late, by landlord dirty tricks, by court clerk errors, judge bias, or many other things that are not your fault. It happens.

In that event, you may want to appeal the case. The appeal does NOT automatically stop the eviction; you have to specially ask for the trial judge to stop it, and if that doesn't work, ask the appellate court.

There are also things that you need to do in the process, like file the notice of appeal within 30 days of the notice of entry of judgment, file the request for clerk's transcript and Statement of Appeal, your Opening Brief, and perhaps a Reply Brief, in addition to a few other matters that may arise. These papers have to be done correctly and on time. The actual costs are difficult to assess on some items, like the statement on appeal and Opening Brief, so the charges shown for those are the MINIMUM. You will be advised as to the actual cost once the paperwork is evaluated.
